My Philosophy

At Greenwood Midwifery and Integrative Health, we believe in the strength and intuition of every woman we serve. Our philosophy is rooted in a deep respect for the natural birthing process and the profound capabilities of the human body. We view midwifery not as an oversight but as a partnership. I, Kesha, am committed to empowering you with knowledge and support, fostering an environment where your voice leads the journey. Our approach is built on the foundation of relationship building and continuous education, ensuring that you feel both cared for and confident. We encourage a collaborative dialogue that respects and honors your individual needs, choices, and aspirations. Here, you are the foremost expert on your body, and our role is to support you in unlocking the power of your own instincts and decisions throughout the birthing experience.

Hello! I'm Kesha Johnson.

I was born and raised in Tulsa, Oklahoma, a city whose history, resilience, and sense of community have deeply shaped who I am. As a traditional home birth midwife, I attended my first birth at just 15 years old and dedicated myself fully to autonomous birth work in 2017. My foundation in midwifery was built through traditional apprenticeship, hands-on experience, and a deep respect for the wisdom that has been passed from one generation of midwives to the next.

I opened my private practice in July 2023 and had the privilege of serving families throughout Tulsa and the surrounding communities until August 2024, when I stepped away to welcome my youngest son into the world and embrace the precious season of becoming a mother again. After returning to practice in November 2024, I continued serving families until December 2025 before intentionally taking a sabbatical to spend time with my family, reflect on my calling, and prayerfully consider the future of my practice.

That season of rest gave me clarity. I realized that I wanted to expand my ability to serve families throughout Oklahoma while continuing to preserve the heart of traditional midwifery. As a result, I chose to pursue my Certified Professional Midwife (CPM) credential and Oklahoma midwifery license. This decision was never about leaving traditional midwifery behind or viewing unlicensed midwifery as lesser. Instead, it was about broadening my reach, increasing access to home birth, strengthening collaboration within the healthcare community, and ensuring that more families have the opportunity to receive the kind of relationship-centered care that first drew me to this profession.

Since beginning my journey, I have attended more than 75 births and remain committed to lifelong learning through continuing education, workshops, conferences, and ongoing clinical training. My experience includes managing complications during pregnancy, birth, and the postpartum period while providing calm, evidence-informed, and trauma-informed care.

One of my deepest convictions is that faith, physiology, traditional wisdom, and modern medicine are not competing philosophies but complementary gifts. I believe God designed the body with an incredible capacity to grow, birth, and nourish babies. I also believe He has given us knowledge, medicine, and clinical skills to use wisely when circumstances call for them. My role as a midwife is to support normal physiological birth whenever possible while recognizing when additional care or intervention is appropriate. I strive to honor both the sacredness of birth and the responsibility of providing safe, knowledgeable care.

More than anything, I value the relationships I build with the families I serve. I believe midwifery is about much more than catching babies. It is about walking alongside women during one of the most transformative seasons of their lives, offering education, encouragement, and unwavering support so they can make informed decisions with confidence.

As a Black midwife caring for Black families and families from all backgrounds, I am deeply committed to creating an environment where every client feels safe, seen, respected, and heard. Every family deserves compassionate, individualized care that honors their values, culture, and unique story. Representation matters, and I consider it both a privilege and a responsibility to help improve the birth experience for families within my community.

As a descendant of Tulsa Race Massacre survivors, my work carries a significance that extends beyond birth itself. Greenwood Midwifery and Integrative Health was founded in honor of the resilience, strength, and legacy of Tulsa's historic Greenwood District. My hope is that every family who enters my practice experiences the same sense of dignity, empowerment, and community that has inspired generations before us.

When I'm not serving families, you'll find me spending time with my children, Jaxon, Ila, Charles Jr., and my niece, Kierslyn. Family is my greatest joy and constant reminder of why this work matters. I enjoy reading, painting, hiking, baking, learning, and continually growing both personally and professionally.

My philosophy has always been simple: birth belongs to the family. My role is not to direct the experience but to educate, support, advocate, and walk alongside you with skill, humility, and compassion. I want every client to know that their voice matters, their choices will be respected, and their birth story is uniquely their own.

Welcome to Greenwood Midwifery and Integrative Health. I'm honored to be part of your journey.
